 Sachin announces retirement

It's official. As expected, Sachin Tendulkar will make his last bow from cricket after playing his 200th Test against the West Indies.

The cricketing legend announced his retirement through a BCCI press release that stated "It's hard for me to imagine a life without playing cricket because it's all I have ever done since I was 11 years old. It's been a huge honour to have represented my country and played all over the world. I look forward to playing my 200th Test Match on home soil, as I call it a day" -

What is Match Fixing

In organized sports, match fixing, race fixing or sports fixing occurs as a match is played to a completely or partially pre-determined result, violating the rules of the game and often the law.

Match-fixing generally refers to fixing the final result of the game. Another form of match-fixing, known as spot-fixing, involves fixing small events within a match which can be gambled upon, but which are unlikely to prove decisive in determining the final result of the game.

What is Spot-fixing?

Spot-fixing refers to illegal activity in a sport where a specific part of a game is fixed. Examples include something as minor as timing a no ball or wide delivery in cricket or timing the first throw-in or corner in . Spot-fixing attempts to defraud bookmakers illegally by means of a player agreeing to perform to order by pre-arrangement.

Eg-:  a bowler might deliberately bowl consecutive wides in his second over or a batsman could make sure he does not reach double figures.

Sreesanth and other players of the Rajasthan Royals IPL  team have been arrested by the Delhi Police  .

The special cell of Delhi police on  Thursday morning (2.30 AM) arrested three players of Rajasthan Royals, a cricket team participating in Indian Premiere League (IPL), over the allegations of spot fixing in the IPL matches.

S. Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandalia . Sreesanth was arrested from a friend’s house.Chavan and Chandalia were arrested from Trident Hotel,The cases under section 420 and 120 (b) have been registered against players.
